Pirates basektball heads into break atop conference

The VC Pirates men's basketball team currently holds first place in its conference.
The team just completed its fall schedule with a 105-83 win over Schreiner University.
Leading scorers for the game were Israel Garcia with 26 points, including six 3-pointers and a perfect eight for eight showing from the free-throw line, Xavier Callis with 16 points (3 3FG, 5-5 FT), Carlos Cortez with 15 points (3 3FG), Rock Martin with 13 points, Donte McGee with 12 points and Andy Walker with 12 points.
All together, VC made 15 3-pointers on the night and was 20 of 23 from the free-throw line.
VC's overall record is 7-4 with a conference record of 6-1.
The Treasures Dance Team performed in the Victoria Christmas parade on Saturday.
Team members Kasey Gonzales, Ashley Cardona, Eboni Franklin, Skyeleigh Ficklen, Kierstyn Williams, Michelle Carter, Alayna Belcik, Bre Burrow, Heather Eidem, and Mallory Morales all participated.
The Treasures will be holding tryouts for the 2012 spring semester Jan. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Jan. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the VC Sports Center Aerobic Room.
Those who make the team should register for PHED 1124.1, which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., and will receive a physical education credit.

The VC Pirates men's baseball team will host a final tryout for the 2012 spring baseball season Saturday at the VISD Event Center Field located next to Memorial Football Stadium.
Pitchers and catchers tryout at 10 a.m., infielders and outfielders tryout at 1 p.m.
Tryouts are open to all current and potential VC students who will be enrolled with at least nine hours in the spring 2012 semester. Current students must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
All team members are required to provide proof of insurance. There is also a $10 tryout fee.
VC will participate in the National Club Baseball Association District VII West along with club teams from Texas A&M-Corps of Cadets, University of Texas-San Antonio, Texas Christian University, and Lone Star College-Tomball.
