Civilian Police Academy accepting applications

The Victoria Police Department Crime Prevention Unit is accepting applications for the 33rd annual Civilian Police Academy. Classes begin on Feb. 7. Application may be picked up and dropped off at the Crime Prevention Unit located in the Victoria Mall between Sears and Chick-Fil-A or downloaded online from VictoriaPD.com. Deadline for applying is Friday, Dec. 30.
The Civilian Police Academy is a free 11-week program designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the Victoria Police Department. It consists of a series of classes and discussions held once a week, on Tuesday evenings from 6 until 9 p.m., and two Saturday mornings. Classes are held once a year.
Each class is limited to 20 students and is filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply, and must pass a background check for acceptance into the CPA.
