Two Point Comfort Alcoa employees were transported to hospitals Thursday after suffering burns on the job.

The workers suffered chemical burns from a caustic release from a small drain valve about 11 a.m. in the company's clarification process area, according to a company news release.

Throughout the clarification process, settling and filtration remove residues from caustic solutions, according to the Alcoa website.

Although both workers were taken to Citizens Medical Center after the burns, one was later transferred to San Antonio's Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment. The other employee was discharged from Citizens.

Alcoa, the leading producer of primary aluminum, said in the press release that it is investigating the incident.
