Applications are being accepted for Victoria's Affordable Housing Program Grant.
Funds from the grant assist low-income homeowners with minor home improvements or remodeling, according to a news release from the city of Victoria. The grants do not have to be paid back.
The improvements are designed to make houses accessible to the elderly or disabled.
Improvements can include retrofitting bathrooms, building wheelchair ramps, roofing or other activities aimed at making the home safe and easily accessible to residents.
Eligibility guidelines include meeting total household income requirements, and the homeowner or spouse must be at least 55 or disabled.
In addition, current property taxes must be paid, and the house must be owner occupied and within the Victoria city limits. Mobile or manufactured homes are not eligible.
All work will be completed by a licensed contractor and will be given a one-year warranty. Applications are available at the city of Victoria Development Services Department, 700 Main Center, Suite 115.
The grants are administered in conjunction with the Community Action Committee of Victoria and First Victoria National Bank.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call 361-485-3360 for an appointment.
