United Daughters of the Confederacy meets

The William P. Rogers Chapter No. 44, United Daughters of the Confederacy, met recently at the Power Home. President Susannah Card presided and called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by Chaplain Marilyn Niesner. The pledge to the United States Flag was led by Zelda Liford. The pledge to the Texas Flag was led by Lu Beth Sexton, and the salute to the Confederate Flag was led by Janis Rollins.
Members in attendance were: Jane Cornett, Simone Tipton, Rollins, Card, Marilyn Niesner, Sexton, Sharron Torrence, Alma Wehmeyer, Alice Lapham, Sure Raaz, Belva Zirjacks, Liford, Lola Bade, Linda Alexander, Susanne Vanway, Cynthia Schmidt, Patricia Williams and associate member Charles Spurlin.
Tipton reported the chapter flag should be completed by next fall. She presented two Texas Division certificates to William P. Rogers Chapter earned at the Texas Division United Daughters of the Confederacy Convention. Hamilton Zirjacks was thanked for photographing William P. Rogers to be used in the chapter pin design.
Belva Zirjacks introduced Spurlin, former chairman of the Victoria College Social Sciences Department who spoke on the Gulf Coast before and during the Civil War. President Card thanked the hostesses, Tipton, Rollins, Cornett and Lapham. The meeting was adjourned with prayer.
