The Victoria Education Foundation will recognize two lifetimes of musical achievement at the first Victoria Fine Arts Center performance Thursday.
Conductor Jerry Junkin and his father Fred Junkin, a former band director, will be the first inducted into the Hall of Honor, which will recognize district alumni and faculty.
Jerry Junkin is being recognized for his accomplishments as the conductor of the University of Texas Wind Ensemble and the artistic director of the Dallas Wind Symphony.
The wind ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday along with East and West High School bands, choirs and dance groups.
Fred Junkin is being recognized for his long-time service as the Victoria High School band director and a music supervisor.
Eventually, the two will have bronze awards that will remain on the Fine Arts Center wall. Future inductees will also be placed on the wall.
"It's to help tell positive stories about VISD faculty members and alumni so that those become positive stories that can influence and inspire our students," Brittany Hollas, executive director of the Victoria Independent School District Education Foundation.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at area music stores and through the Education Foundation. Tickets are $10.
