BEEVILLE - Start making plans to participate in the Seventh Annual Tri-County Commercial Female Sale, to be held at noon on April 2 at the Beeville Livestock Commission.
Cattle can be delivered to the auction barn starting Thursday, March 31, cattle will be judged on Friday, April 1, and sell on Saturday. Priority will be extended to consignments producers who own or lease property in the Tri-County area of Bee, Goliad and Refugio counties and those counties surrounding including: Aransas, Calhoun, DeWitt, Live Oak, Karnes, San Patricio and Victoria counties.
The sale is sponsored by the Tri-County Commercial Female Sale Steering Committee. Other sponsors for the event include: Ag Med Supply, Beeville Livestock Commission, Capital Farm Credit, Lyssy and Eckel Feeds and Silveus Rangeland Insurance.
Consigners are strongly encouraged to consign their best quality animals, according to their production standards. All cattle will first be inspected by the Sifting Committee before being allowed to participate in the sale. Females must be between 8 and 48 months of age and defined as purebred, registered or crossbred. Females must be weaned, and backgrounding is encouraged. Females older than 24 months of age must be bred or have calf-at-side. All females older than 18 months must be brucellosis tested or/and palpated within 30 days prior to the sale (those between 8 and 18 months must be calf-hood vaccinated). Health papers on all cattle will be given to the buyers.
Consigners will be charged a commitment fee of $10 per head, and the sale commission rate will be 5 percent.
Some goals of this effort are: 1) To provide quality cow and calf producers an opportunity to present cattle to the region and to increase awareness and appreciation for cattle raised in and around the Tri-County area; 2) To develop alternative markets for the quality cow and calf producers and attract prospective buyers from South and Central Texas; 3) To provide females produced in and around the Tri-County area to Tri-County area ranchers; 4) To provide a quality educational component to cow and calf producers in the Tri-County area.
