A 22-year-old Victoria man fled on foot from his home as officers tried to arrest him Tuesday morning on an outstanding warrant.
Around 7:25 a.m., Victoria Police Department officers went to the 600 block of South Wheeler Street to arrest Jesus Martinez Jr. in a burglary of a vehicle warrant issued in Comal County, according to the arrest report.
A woman answered the door to the home, while Martinez ran out the back door, according to the arrest report.
Two officers chased Martinez until he stopped in the 400 block of East River Street, at which time he was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest.
Officers found a small plastic bag Martinez had discarded that contained marijuana. Since he was detained within 1,000 feet of Victoria Headstart, Martinez was also arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone, according to the report.
All charges, including the warrant, are class A misdemeanors.
