About 400 Va Guard members mobilized for Iraq duty

SANDSTON, Va. (AP) - About 400 members of the Virginia National Guard are getting ready for duty in Iraq.

Officials say the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment will undergo mobilization training at Fort Hood, Texas, before deploying to Iraq.

A departure ceremony is set for Friday afternoon in Sandston.

The 2nd Battalion has 30 Black Hawk helicopters, a maintenance company, headquarters company and forward support company. The battalion, also known as "The Punishers," was last mobilized for federal active duty in Iraq from January 2006 to February 2007.

The battalion is made up of soldiers from all over the state, mostly from the Richmond area.
