Woman dies, four injured in car accident

A Houston woman was pronounced dead in Corpus Christi on Saturday morning after wrecking her vehicle in Jackson County earlier that day. Department of Public Safety officials confirmed four additional passengers riding in the vehicle, were also injured in the accident.

Maria Jaimes, 53, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 59 in a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck when her vehicle lost control.

According to DPS, the truck rolled over near mile marker 604 at 6:29 a.m., killing Maria Vela, 85, and injuring all four passengers.

Vela was airflighted to Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi and pronounced dead at 10:25 a.m. by Dr. Adrian Reyes.

Passenger Ancelmo Vela, 92, of Houston, was airflighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is in critical condition with serious injuries.

Passengers Jaimes, 53; Alma Castro, 30, and 11-month-old Victor Aurioles were taken to Citizens Medical Center. Each are in stable condition.
