With cold weather here, the Victoria Area Homeless Coalition is seeking donations to help those who suffer in the colder temperatures.

Donations of blankets, sleeping bags, coats, hats and gloves are needed, both in adult and children's sizes.

Donations will be distributed through the end of the month or until they run out, said Ginny Stafford of the coalition.

"Very often, it's not just those who are living on the streets who need blankets. Families who are living with other families, or staying in motels often need extra covers when the weather turns cold. Especially in homes without heat," said Stafford.

Donated items may be taken to the Mid-Coast Family Services office, 120 S. Main St., third floor or taken to the Mid-Coast Thrift and Gift Shop, 3406 Sam Houston Drive, clearly marked "Not for sale/for the Homeless."

Monetary donations are also accepted.

"This is really a hard time for those of us who care about the homeless. But it's even harder for those who are homeless," Stafford said.
