The body of a Pasadena man suffering from Alzheimer's who was reported missing July 2 has been found in Matagorda, sheriff's officials said Wednesday.

Albert Jones, 79, was last seen driving his maroon 2003 Buick Rendezvous in Pasadena on Saturday.

"What we have found indicates this to be the missing man," said Bruce Page, chief deputy for Matagorda County Sheriff's Office.

Later, a justice of the peace confirmed the body was Albert Jones.

Page said residents found the body about four blocks away from the location of the car, 50 yards from roadway in a wooded area near the levees.

The abandoned car was reported to the sheriff's department on Sunday afternoon by local residents on St. Mary's Street near Burton in Matagorda, Page said.

A license plate search resulted in confirmation the vehicle belonged to Jones.

Involved in the underwater search was the Texas Equusearch, and the Texas Department of Safety dive team. Divers searched the water near where the car was found abandoned.

Page also said sonar devices were used to search for Jones.
