The Port Lavaca Police Department is requesting the public's help in identifying a man who is reported to have attempted to pick up a 12-year-old boy near the fair grounds in Port Lavaca.

The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the child, a man in a "beat up" blue sedan drove up next to him as he was riding a bike on Airline Drive. The vehicle pulled up, stopped and the man rolled down his window.

The child reported the man made a statement to him, which he knew to be false, and tried to get him to get in the car.

The child fled to the home where he was staying.

The driver is described as an Anglo or Hispanic man, medium build, wearing sunglasses and smoking a cigarette. He had what the boy described as a large dark mole on his left cheek. He had medium length dark hair.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Port Lavaca Police Department at 361-552 3788.
