Cancer survivors will band together on Sunday at One O'Connor Plaza in a cancer survivor day of recognition.
"We're just celebrating survivorship," said Celeste Hunter, who is volunteering.
The Guardians of the Ribbon South Texas Chapter, which has a pink fire truck for cancer battlers and survivors to sign, will also be at the event.
The idea behind the cancer survivors day was to have a place to celebrate survivorship and network with others.
"It's not a death sentence," Hunter said.
There will be a small ceremony followed by mingling, cake, popcorn and other foods.
The idea also comes from the National Cancer Survivors Day event, which is in its 24th year.
The site gives communities the tools needed to organize their own event.
"You can't control the wind but you can adjust your sails," she said. "Life goes on even with a cancer diagnosis."
