La Salle resident Daniel Ellis got a shock when he found a football-shaped cantaloupe lying among the other fruits at his home garden.
The life-long gardener, who grows cantaloupes and watermelons, said he'd never seen anything like the item he dubbed his "Texas sweet football."
"I didn't do anything different to it," he said, explaining he has about four cantaloupe plants. "This is really different."
The 61-year-old said he doesn't care much for football.
He picked the odd melon Thursday and said he has enjoyed showing it to friends.
"They all say they can't believe it," he said with a smile and shake of his head.
