My First Job: Hector Castaneda

June 18, 2011 at 1:18 a.m.

Name: Hector Castaneda

Age: 68

City of residence: Victoria

Current title: Retired from H-E-B

First job: I was a janitor for my church at age 12. My dad was a Presbyterian minister in Corpus Christi, and I cleaned the church and all the classrooms.

What it taught me: In those days it taught me the value of a dollar. It was both good and bad, though, because I began to appreciate the money more than school. I eventually quit school and joined the military.
