The Victoria City Council will hold budget workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The council is scheduled to look at budget overviews for the:

Victoria Police Department;

Victoria Fire Department;

Parks and Recreation Department;

Environmental Services;

Development Services.

The police department is requesting $10.378 million, according to city documents. Its proposed personnel and benefits cost will rise $200,498 from the current fiscal year.

In the fire department's budget overview, it will buy a $501,000 new fire engine.

The budget for the Environmental Services is $3.901 million in its budget overview. It also proposes reinstating a position.

The frozen building inspector position would cost about $44,000, according to the budget overview. The position hasn't been filled since November 2009, and the effects "were minimal because of the low volume" of construction.

However, the budget presentation said that this position is needed immediately due to increased development.
