The Victoria County Commissioners Court nominated one of its own for a regional water-planning position.

Kevin Janak, commissioner for Precinct 2, was nominated on Monday for a county position on the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group. The appointment would run for five years.

Anyone is allowed to nominate a person for the water-planning group. Yet Janak said it betters his chances of getting onto the group as a permanent voting member by having the court's support.

The court nominated Janak last year, but his nomination was declined. He is currently an alternate member.

Sixteen water-planning groups have updated the state's water plan every five years since 2001. The next update was scheduled for 2016.

On each water-planning group, there are 11 interest groups for members to represent. Janak said he is trying to become the representative of three of those groups, hoping to get on the water-planning group via one of them.

Group members are suppose to come up with a plan that suits all interested parties, Janak said.

Four Victoria residents are already on the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group: Gary Middleton, Bill Jones, Tim Andruss and Jason Ammerman.
