Victoria Fine Arts Association sets inaugural JAM Fest for April 14

The Victoria Fine Arts Association JAM Fest (Jazz, Art, and More) has been rescheduled for April 14, 2012.

The festival was set for April 9, but two weeks before the event, the association received word the city would be milling the downtown streets around DeLeon Plaza.

Instead of attempting to relocate this event on short notice, the association decided to delay it a year and focus on planning the event.

"We are excited to have our event return to downtown Victoria. It would have been great to have it in 2011, but will be even better once all of the construction is complete," association president Geri Schroeder said.

This inaugural one-day event will include a street-festival around DeLeon Plaza. It will feature artisans with wares including paintings, watercolor, jewelry, textiles, gourmet food and boutique wine. Clowns, stilt walkers, face painters and artists will entertain on the street while music fills the air from the main stage.

A "quick draw" contest featuring chain saw sculptors will be an early event, with their creations up for auction later in the evening.

Students will display their musical and visual art talent throughout the day.

JAM Fest will conclude with a downtown block party with the headlining band performing on the main stage into the evening. Musical entertainment on the main stage has yet to be announced.

A VIP party will be held concurrent with the outdoor music, featuring catered food and drink. This will be an event that celebrates the visual and performing arts in a venue friendly to the whole family.

For 65 years, the Victoria Fine Arts Association has hosted premier events aimed at providing cultural opportunities to the citizens of Victoria and the surrounding cities. The Victoria Fine Arts Association continues its mission to be a leader in the development and appreciation of the performing arts.
