The Victoria Amateur Radio Club and the Coleto Creek Amateur Radio Club will host a field day beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the open area next to Citizens Healthplex, 9406 N.E. Zac Lentz Parkway.
"On-the-air" operations will continue until 1 p.m. Sunday.
The public is invited to come and meet amateur radio operators from around the Golden Crescent.
The field day is designed to test operators' abilities to setup and operate portable stations under emergency conditions. The demonstrations will include emergency preparedness activities.
During the weekend, radio operators try to contact as many other field day stations as possible. More than 35,000 Amateur Radio operators across the USA and Canada participated in last year's event.
In the past year alone, amateur radio operators (HAMs) have made headlines with their work in the wildfires, floods, storms, tornadoes and other disasters worldwide.
There are more than 670,000 amateur radio operators in the United States and more than 2.5 million worldwide.
