Longtime Victoria school district superintendent dies

C.O. Chandler, longtime Victoria school district superintendent, died Monday. He was 103 years old.

According to a close friend, Betty Albrecht, he had fallen and broken a hip. He died at about 8 p.m.

Chandler was superintendent for 19 years from 1955 to 1974 and had moved to Victoria in 1953.

More recently, an elementary school - constructed in 2001 - was named in his honor: the C.O. Chandler Elementary School.

The funeral will be in Lufkin, where Chandler lived, on Thursday. More information was not immediately available Monday night.
