Man injured after striking horse in the highway

A Yoakum man injured was injured around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when his truck hit a horse in the roadway.

The man, whose name was not released, was driving a 2002 GMC pick-up truck north in the 14,400 block of U.S. Highway 77 North, near Tate Road, when it struck the horse.

The driver, a 33-year-old Yoakum man, was transported to Citizens Medical Center.

The horse was killed on impact, Cpl. Travis Gundelach with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office said.

The Victoria County Sheriff's Office, the Victoria Fire Department and the Nursery Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.
