A Yoakum man was arrested Monday afternoon in Cuero after a homeowner reported a burglary in progress at their home.
At about 3:05 p.m. on Monday, the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office dispatcher received a call concerning a theft in progress in the 4300 block of Alternate US 77. The resident interrupted the theft.
Using the homeowner's description of the vehicle, a deputy was able to locate it, but the driver refused to stop. A short pursuit ensued, ending on Calhoun Street in Cuero, where the deputy arrested Armando Gomez, 44, with the assistance of Cuero police and the Department of Public Safety troopers.
The vehicle, a 2000 Plymouth minivan, had been stolen in Yoakum just prior to the attempted burglary. The vehicle had not yet been reported stolen by the owners.
Gomez is being held in the DeWitt County Detention Center on burglary and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charges.
