Help is on the way to Crossroads agriculturists looking for a bit of industry information.
The Jackson County AgriLife Beef Cattle Committee and Jackson County Cattle Raisers Association will host a trade day April 2.
The event, at Edna's Brackenridge Main Event Center, is a chance to educate ranchers and landowners on animal nutrition, dealing with feral hogs and more, said Leon Whitley, president of the cattle raisers association.
"We're also hoping to get professional buyers to tell the ranchers what they look for when they go to the auction ring to buy animals," he said. "We thought it could really help the ranchers."
The trade day was a couple years in the making, Whitley said, and came about because a group of committee members decided it was finally time to take it on.
In addition to the educational programs, area vendors will also be on-hand, exhibiting their products and services.
"If people are like me, they get in a rut," Whitley said of his agricultural purchases. "They go to certain places and don't go anywhere else. But this is an opportunity for businesses to show a public that is interested in their products what they have available."
Whitley said he hoped to see the show become an annual event and possibly incorporate a livestock sale into the mix next year.
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to attend, said Lynn Utz, an event organizer.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m., and both a continental breakfast and barbecue lunch will be available. The show lasts through 4 p.m.
Whitley said the committee looks forward to getting the event off the ground, but admitted they're a bit nervous, too.
"It's sort of like having a baby," he said. "You don't know how everything's going to turn out. But everybody's been working to make sure everything's in place."
