The Victoria Advocate was named the best online newspaper in Texas during the annual Associated Press Managing Editors convention Sunday in Tyler.

The Advocate also picked up three other awards Sunday, bringing its weekend total to 23.

"We're particularly pleased by the breadth and depth of the work honored, reflecting the dedication and talents of the entire staff," Editor Chris Cobler said.

Also Sunday, the Advocate's former creative services manager, Ryan Huddle, was named the Star Designer among all newspapers of all sizes in Texas. Huddle recently was hired as a designer by the Boston Globe.

At the 2010 convention, the Advocate's Gabe Semenza was named the Star Reporter among all newspapers of all sizes in Texas, making it two straight years a newspaper's staffer has received the APME's top honor.

Here are the Advocate's other honors in its classification of newspapers ranging from 30,000-124,999 Sunday:

Community service, second place, Erica Rodriguez and staff.
