Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested four people in two traffic stops in connection with 47 pounds of marijuana that was seized on U.S. Highway 59 at Loop 463 about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Troopers pulled over a Mercury Cougar on suspicion of following too close and failure to signal lane change, said Trooper Gerald Bryant, DPS public information officer.
Upon searching the car, troopers found 12 bundles of marijuana in the rear quarter panels, Bryant said.
The driver, Thomas Gonzales, 24, of Corpus Christi, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, Bryant said. He was also later charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
A short time later, troopers stopped a Ford Fusion on U.S. 59 that was thought to be traveling with Gonzales.
Arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity were Miguel Mendoza Jr., 25, of McAllen; Maria Rosario Rodriguez, 27, of Alamo; and Xavier V. Hernandez, 27, of McAllen.
