Best Tourist Destination: Goliad

There are a lot of reasons tourists visit Goliad, said Mona Foust, executive director of the Goliad County Chamber of Commerce.

"Goliad is not your typical cookie-cutter town," she said. "It's a unique town steeped in history, but also filled with special citizens who have instilled community values that also attract visitors."

Some of the historical attractions include the Presidio La Bahia, Mission Espiritu at the state park, the Ignacio Zaragoza statue, the restored courthouse and the hanging tree on the square.

Events also abound including a living history re-enactment at the Presidio, the Missions Tour de Goliad bike ride, monthly Market Days, the county fair and rodeo, the Texas Mile motor sports festival and many more.

Throw in shopping and dining on the square and it's easy to see why Advocate readers voted Goliad the best tourist destination in the Crossroads.
