An investigation is ongoing in an attempted arson on the playground at O'Connor Elementary School on Sunday.

Victoria Police Department Lt. Jason Cross said police and fire officials responded to the 3000 block of Bobolink Lane at 3:02 p.m. in reference to a possible fire near a slide on O'Connor's playground.

"Someone poured accelerant on the ground close to one of the slides. It was smoldering for a couple of hours, but no fire actually started," Cross said.

Fire investigator Mark Flathouse said school district video surveillance is being used to investigate the case.

"I have viewed some parts" of the video, Flathouse said. "We have surveillance of suspicious activity."

Flathouse does not yet have leads on suspects, but the accelerant has been sent to a lab for further testing.
