Woman arrested with 20 pounds of cocaine

A 30-year-old San Benito woman is in the Victoria County jail after being arrested on a charge of possession of about 20 pounds of cocaine Monday afternoon.
Alexis Munoz was stopped on a traffic offense by a Department of Public Safety trooper at 4:30 p.m. She was traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 near the intersection of state Highway 185.
During questioning, the trooper saw several signs of criminal activity and received a verbal consent to search the 2002 Buick Rendezvous, said Trooper Gerald Bryant, DPS public information officer.
The trooper discovered a false compartment in the rear quarter panel of the vehicle and found nine kilos (19.8 pounds) of cocaine.
The cocaine has a street value of $198,000, Bryant said.
A 5-year-old girl in the vehicle was released to family members. Munoz was traveling to Houston, he said.
As of Tuesday morning, The bust marked the third for local troopers during the holiday weekend.
On Sunday, 45 pounds of marijuana was confiscated following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59 and earlier on Monday, 161 pounds of marijuana were discovered during a traffic stop, again on Highway 59.
