Anna Kupfernagel, who was rescued from her van after it left the highway and plunged into a creek on Wednesday, remained hospitalized Thursday.
The 76-year-old woman was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Christus Spohn Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.
Deputies, troopers and firefighters freed Kupfernagel from the van that was half submerged in water under the U.S. Highway 59 South bridge. She was flown by Citizens Air Medical helicopter to the Corpus Christi hospital.
The accident is still under investigation, and the cause has not been determined, Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant said.
