The days are getting cooler and there are some cool things happening here at the Victoria Art League. Our Holiday Market Day and the start of our Bazaar is coming up Saturday.

Put this on your calendar. We have rented booths to artists, craftsmen and other interesting gift creators for you to come and do some early Christmas shopping for some very unique gifts. We will also have the gallery decorated with Christmas trees adorned with ornaments that you can buy and a booth with handmade art, which we have been creating for the last few months. There have been workshops in rock painting, quilling (art created from spiraling paper to create 3-D designs), photography (making cards), clay gift items and decorations, jewelry, decorating and painting ornaments, and more.

Plan to come out and spend some of your day with us at our historical building at 905 S. Bridge St.

Booths will be set up in the gallery and in our patio area. If you are interested in renting a booth, call the art league at 361-572-0825 and see if some are still available. They rent for $15-$25.

Our Christmas Bazaar will start Saturday and will continue until Dec. 20, in our gallery area. Our walls will be filled with paintings, pottery, sculpture and other 3-D artwork and gift items for you to look at. We are open from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Dalhart Windberg, renowned oil painter, will honor us with an oil painting demonstration at our monthly meeting. Our meetings are open to the public, so please make plans to join us at 2 p.m. Nov. 13.

Read my Art Corner for the artist who will be doing the program each month. You are welcome anytime.

Dalhart will be teaching a three-day workshop starting Nov. 14, through Nov. 16. If you are interested in taking his workshop, call the Art league for more information. I took the class last year and know that he is very knowledgeable and open with everyone.

Our classes are continuing. The new class this month is Jim Feig's beginning digital photography class. It will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting Tuesday. It costs $80. Call the art league at 361-572-0825 for more information.

We just had a successful Bootfest where our members displayed their work and even demonstrated their talent on the square. Winning the grand prize of $500 was member Amber Stratman who also received first place in oils. Marilyn Key was awarded second in oils, Candace Coyle received first in acrylics, Paula Kainer received first in watercolor and I received second in sculpture.

We also sold numerous decorated boots from our "Boots for Bucks" competition last year. I apologize because I had said donations would be going to our building restoration fund, which many of you have donated to this last year and we thank every one of you. The funds generated for the boots had been specified to be placed in a scholarship fund for students studying art at our art league. Both funds are so important and we thank our community for contributing to either because you make things happen.

We just finished restoring our porch and the new roof and windows were finished before that so come by and see what your donations are doing. Come see us.
