Extension Agent: Tri-County Beef Cattle Symposium will be in Gonzales

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of DeWitt, Gonzales and Lavaca counties, and the counties' Beef and Forage Committees will sponsor the annual Tri-County Beef Cattle Symposium on Nov. 17.
The program will be at the Gonzales Livestock Commission Co., off Alternate U.S. Highway 90, west of Gonzales. Registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. with the program starting at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is not required, but a $10 fee per person will be charged.
The guest speakers and program topics include: "Beef Cattle Market Outlook," by Larry Falconer, extension economist; "Getting Through the Winter and Planning for the Future," by Joe Paschal, extension livestock specialist; "Long Term Weather Forecast," by Bob Rose, LCRA veteorologist; and "Pasture Response to Drought," by Larry Redmon, extension forage specialist. There will also be a brief update on the application process for an Ag Exemption through the Texas State Comptroller's office.
The program will conclude around noon. Lunch will not be served; however light snacks will be provided throughout the morning. Two-and-a-half CEU's will be offered for private, commercial and non-commercial pesticide applicators license holders. We will also be able to give one-and-a-half beef quality credits.
49TH Annual DeWitt County Pecan Show
The 49th Annual DeWitt County Pecan Show will be Tuesday at the Friar Ag Center in the Cuero City Park, with judging begins at 1 p.m.
This year, the awards banquet and program will not be held.
Now is the time to get pecan samples together. Entries from yards of residents, as well as from commercial producers are encouraged. Pecan entries can come from DeWitt and surrounding counties that do not have a county pecan show.
Winners in each division will win $25 cash prize.

The DeWitt County Extension Education Association Clubs will provide a luncheon, serving sandwiches, desserts and drinks from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
