Cold weather may drag out North Navarro Street work

Nov. 9, 2011 at 5:09 a.m.

Resurfacing of North Navarro Street, from Loop 463 to Salem Road, is progressing, but the cooler evenings may cause some problems.

"Hot mix cannot be laid on wet or cold pavement. The contractor needs approximately five nights to complete the work, but with seasonal weather restrictions, it may take longer," said Randy Bena, Texas Department of Transportation area engineer.

Most of the work is performed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. in an effort to minimize the impact on area travelers. Hunter Industries is the contractor.

Motorists can expect lane closures and moving equipment in the area at night. Road conditions may be rough during the day.

"The work is behind due to the hot mix plant breakdown and equipment issues, both of which have been resolved," Bena said.

Motorists should use caution and observe warning signs in the work zones.

Motorists should be patient and pay close attention when traveling through the work area.
