Grants available to assist low-income residents with home improvements

Affordable Housing Program Grant

Eligibility Criteria

Live in the highlighted neighborhoods shown on the map.

Total household income must meet the guidelines as shown below.

Homeowner or spouse must be 55 or older or with disabilities that require minor rehabilitation in order for home to remain accessible.

Current property taxes must be paid.

Home must be owner occupied and within the city limits.

Mobile or manufactured homes are not eligible.

Applications are being accepted in Victoria for the Affordable Housing Program Grant.

The grants are designed to assist low-income residents with minor home improvements or remodeling specifically targeted to making homes accessible to the elderly or disabled, according to a news release from the city of Victoria.

The services are free to qualifying households and could included retrofitting bathrooms, building wheelchair ramps or roofing.

The first round of grant applications will be accepted from low-income residents who meet the criteria and also live in a high income neighborhood, as shown on the accompanying map.

All work will be completed by a licensed contractor and will be given a one year warranty.

The grant program is being conducted by the city of Victoria Development Services Department in conjunction with First Victoria National Bank and the Community Action Committee, according to the news release.

Applications are available at Development Services, 700 Main, Suite 115.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
