The driver of a Toyota Corolla accidentally hit the accelerator, jumped a curb, which then knocked over a traffic control box that landed on another car.

The Victoria Police Department responded to one of the more unusual traffic calls in the career of Senior Patrol Officer Stephen Long Wednesday evening.

Long said Billye Jackson was driving her red Toyota Corolla through the drive-through of the Weinerschnitzel on 1218 Rio Grande Street when she accidentally hit the accelerator, hopped the curb and knocked over the traffic control box at the corner of Rio Grande and Laurent.

The 61/2-foot silver control box landed on a silver Hyundai Tuscon, which was driven by Susan Morrison. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Victoria police were called in at 5:52 p.m., at the height of rush hour traffic. Throughout the evening, a uniformed patrol officer directed traffic at the intersection of Laurent and Rio Grande. By 8:30 p.m. the city installed a temporary stop sign at the intersection to suffice until the traffic control box could be repaired.
