The Victoria Police Department released sketches Thursday of two men suspected of raping a 21-year-old woman at the Lone Tree Hike and Bike trail.
Both men are Hispanic and in their early- to mid-20s. One has a unique feature - a non-descriptive tattoo running from his right eye to his jaw, said Police Chief JJ Craig.
Because the investigation is ongoing, police released few details.
"There may be questions I can't answer at this time so as not to jeopardize the integrity of the case," Craig said at a news conference.
The woman was jogging on the trail just north of Miori Lane on Saturday about 9:45 p.m. when she was struck on the head by the two men and then raped, police said.
After the men fled on foot, the woman went home to call the police. The woman is doing fine, Craig said.
The trail is still a safe one, but walkers and joggers must be vigilant, the chief said.
Keeping alert to your surroundings and jogging when others are likely to be on the trail helps, he said.
City Councilman Gabriel Soliz said he wants to ensure citizens are safe on the trail.
Soliz met with the chief and City Manager Charmelle Garrett to talk about future steps for safety.
Soliz would like for the chief to research some short- and long-term solutions for increased safety.
"Short-term would be having additional patrols in the area," Soliz said. "Long-term would be looking into the emergency (call) boxes."
