Diehard Calhoun fans wait for the best seats in the house

Nov. 12, 2011 at 5:12 a.m.

Leanora Vargas, middle, talks with another football mom, Michelle McCrory while waiting outside Sandcrab Stadium before the playoff game Friday night. Art Garcia, left, also waits in line. Vargas' and McCrory's sons, RJ Vargas and Nick McCrory, are best friends. Vargas joked that the boys will be lost without each other if they don't go to the same college.

They came to watch a victory. And they came really early for the most coveted seats inside Sandcrab Stadium in Port Lavaca.

Some arrived and waited in line in the chilly weather as many as seven hours before the kickoff Friday night between Calhoun County High School and San Antonio Lanier.

Bill Shrader was among those who waited for the gates to open.

"I'm just a Sandcrab fan," Shrader said. "Part of a natiion."
