Our Lady of Refuge in Refugio is hosting a church rededication ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, to celebrate the completion of a $780,000 renovation. The project has been ongoing for several years, but the renovations officially started in February, church member Barry Beuershausen said.
"The outside, the inside, everything has been renovated," Beuershausen said. "Since everything was moved out during the renovation, everything will have to be rededicated."
Our Lady of Refuge was originally built in 1900, and completed in 1901.
"It's the oldest parish in the Corpus Christi Diocese," Beuershausen said.
The church's facelift includes new lighting, new carpet, new air conditioning, repositioning of the confessional and removal of an old pipe organ to reveal the original stained glass windows, among others.
Bishop William Michael Mulvey, of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, is scheduled to appear for the church rededication service.
Regular Mass will be at 5:30 p.m., and a reception will follow at the church.
