The annual Festival of Lights celebration begins Saturday at the Lavaca County Courthouse in Hallettsville.
Christmas-themed activities commence at noon at the courthouse with a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at the downtown square.
The opening of food, craft and Market Days booths will also open to the public at noon.
An ornament contest begins at 3:30 p.m., and festival organizer Jean Schaefer said interested entrants can bring their pre-made Christmas ornaments to the celebration for judging. All ornaments will be hung on the Christmas tree until Dec. 25.
The lighting extravaganza ceremony, which includes the lighting of the historic courthouse, begins at 5:45 p.m. with master of ceremonies Gary Moses.
Following the lighting of the downtown square, a kiddie parade will begin at 6:05 p.m., followed by a lighted Christmas parade with floats at 6:15 p.m.
A Christmas pageant celebrating the life and death of Jesus begins at 7:30 p.m., featuring live camels, donkeys, sheep and other animals.
The pageant will also be featured at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
There is no cost to attend the day's festivities.
