Citizens Medical Center now houses technology that will provide patients with better surgery outcomes.
The da Vinci Si Surgical System arrived at the hospital in November and provides a minimally invasive approach to more complex surgeries, such as heart bypasses.
The system is a robotic hand that allows surgeons to be precise in surgical procedures.
"We believe that the new features of the da Vinci Si System will help us provide the best possible outcomes for our patients and is proof of our commitment to provide our community access to the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery," said David Brown, hospital chief executive officer.
The robot has been used successfully in hysterectomies and other gynecological procedures, said Dr. Anthony McDowell, a Victoria gynecologist
The system features enhanced 3D, high definition vision, fluorescent imaging and visual clarity of body tissue and anatomy.
"The Da Vinci Si is an extremely exciting tool that will keep Citizens Medical Center's services up there with the biggest and best institutions in the United States," McDowell said.
