Ganado, Gonzales named Army Strong teams of the week

Ganado and Gonzales share perfect records.

Ganado, ranked No. 1 in the Class 1A, state poll, wrapped up its non-district schedule Friday with with a 28-7 win over Class 3A Palacios.

Gonzales moved to 2-0 in District 28-3A play with a 55-0 win over Poteet.

The Apaches and Indians not only improved to 6-0, they were also selected the Army Strong Team of the Week in their respective classification.

Gonzales limited Poteet to 124 yards of offense. Running backs Cecil Johnson and D.J. Gonzales each rushed for over 100 yards as coach Ricky Lock picked up career win No. 100.

Ganado scored three touchdowns and shut out Palacios in the second half. The Indians have won 17 consecutive regular-season games.

The selections are based on leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team.

Ganado and Gonzales will receive their awards from a member of the U.S. Army at a school assembly or pep rally.
