PREP FOOTBALL: El Campo, Sacred Heart win; St. Paul drops district opener

ROSENBERG - Deandre Pratt rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns to lead El Campo to a 28-14 District 23-4A win over Richmond Foster on Saturday at Traylor Stadium.

The Ricebirds were coming off a bye week after their district-opening loss to Angleton. They improved to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in district. The Falcons dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in district.

Pratt scored on runs of 36 and 22 yards after Foster had tied the game at 7 in the second quarter.

El Campo quarterback Cullen Schoener completed 10 of 17 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown.

Schoener threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Devontay Allen in the first quarter.

The Ricebirds scored their final touchdown on a 5-yard run by Montray Johnson in the fourth quarter. Johnson carried 18 times for 108 yards.

Foster quarterback Will Crawford threw a pair of 15-yard touchdown passes to Anthony Harris.

Harris rushed for 69 yards and had five catches for 76 yards.

Jack Davis and Tamall Terrel had interceptions for El Campo, which returns to Ricebird Stadium on Friday to play Rosenberg Terry.

Terry lost to Angleton 50-49 in overtime on Friday night.St. Paul loses district opener

SHINER - Bryan Brazos Christian scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and claim a 42-19 win over Shiner St. Paul in the TAPPS Division IV, District 3 opener for both teams on Saturday night at Comanche Stadium.

St. Paul suffered its first district loss since 2008 and fell to 5-2. Brazos Christian improved to 7-0.

The Cardinals had pulled within 20-13 on a 2-yard touchdown run by Adam Hollenbach with 4:28 left in the third quarter.

But the Eagles scored the next three touchdowns.

St. Paul quarterback Dakota Kresta passed for 248 yards and two touchdowns.

But Brazos Christian out-rushed the Cardinals 436 to 77 yards.

Jaxton McNair rushed for 236 yards and four touchdowns, and Brad Brown rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

St. Paul had won 11 consecutive district games since losing to Hallettsville Sacred Heart in overtime in 2008.Sacred Heart rolls to win

HALLETTSVILLE - Jared Krischke passed for three touchdowns to lead Hallettsville Sacred Heart to a 56-0 win over Bryan St. Joseph at Brahmas Stadium on Saturday.

The Indians completed non-district play with a 7-0 record. Bryan St. Joseph fell to 0-6.

Krischke threw touchdown passes of 35 and 33 yards to Sterling Hrncir and 37 yards to Cole Wick.

Hrncir also scored on a 5-yard run, Matt Holub added touchdown runs of 27 and 1 yard, and Jonathan Vanek scored on a 6-yard run.

Sacred Heart's Casey Mueller returned a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown. The Indians also picked up a safety.

The Indians posted their first shutout of the season and limited the Eagles to 92 total yards.
