Donations being collected for soldiers' care packages

The seventh annual Gary's Care Packages drive has begun.

The drive, in memory of Cpl. Gary W. Walters who was killed in the line of duty in Iraq in 2005 at 31, is dedicated to collecting donations for gift packages to send to soldiers overseas.

Items needed include snack foods, journals, disposable cameras, personal hygiene items, compact discs, handheld games and Christmas decor.

Monetary donations are also needed to assist with shipping costs.

The items can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 12 at Grace Lutheran Church, 9806 N.E. Zac Lentz Parkway in Victoria.
