I hear there is a new park being built on Airline Road. What kind of park will it be?

The park on Airline will be the newest in our park system.

With its diverse elements, it is designed to provide new recreational activities and supplement some needed athletic practice space. The recreational amenities that will be at the park are a water playground or sprayground, pavilion, practice ball fields, practice soccer fields and practice football field.

There will be paved parking and restroom facilities. An additional natural area is also included in the park development. This area will not be developed and is available for nature enthusiasts to enjoy.

The staff is excited about this park and can't wait for it to be open to the public. The park is scheduled to be substantially complete by mid-summer of 2012.

I am hearing a lot about Bootfest. Is this event being put on by the Victoria Parks and Recreation?

Bootfest is a citywide event that is being designed and hosted with the help of multiple city departments, volunteers and sponsors.

The Parks and Recreation Department is involved with logistics of the event, as well as all the food and arts and crafts vendors. We currently have 11 food vendors and more than 70 craft vendors all the way from Lubbock to Louisiana.

Vendors are just one aspect of Bootfest. There will be lots to enjoy at Bootfest, such as a Texas Hold'em Tournament (registration required), Kids Corral (featuring Radio Disney, Boot Artisans and Crafters), Concerts on Friday with Wade Bowen and Saturday Josh Abbott with additional bands throughout the day, followed by an awesome fireworks show.

This event will be in downtown Victoria at DeLeon Plaza on Oct. 21-22. I promise you won't want to miss it.

Did I mention it is completely free?
