Decora Study Club has first meeting

Members and newly installed 2011-12 Decora Study Club officers met recently for lunch and the first meeting of the year in the Olde Victoria Oak Room. Officers included President Francisca Watts, First Vice President Jane Cox, Second Vice Presidents Bobbie Green and Zada Watkins, Third Vice President Norma Nelsen, Recording Secretary Sharon Smith, Corresponding Secretary Jacquie Fritz, Treasurer Vicki Grimes, Program Chairmen Mary Virginia Jacobs and Beth Person, Historian Kathy Alstrom, Parliamentarian Martha Jones, Public Relations Carol Rhode and Federation Counselor Lillian Alex.
Decora is affiliated with the district, state and national General Federation of Women's Clubs.
The program theme for the year is "Tolerance And Respect: Two Words That Will Change The World," and includes studies in conservation, public issues, international issues, home life, education and arts. Members will learn about the Eagle Ford Shale, life in Victoria after the Alamo, archeology of the coastal bend, the juvenile court system, 50 years of Decora through one of the members, the international culture of dance, cooking light and music through the VISD String Orchestra.
Guest day will be Oct. 11 with Martha Jones, genealogist and Decora member presenting the program on the Civilian Conservation Corps. Decora Study Club meets twice month at the Victoria Women's Club House.
