Deputies continue to search for about 15 suspected illegal immigrants who fled from officials on U.S. Highway 77, near Fordtran, around 9 a.m. Friday.
A Victoria County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to stop a white heavy duty truck because it was missing a license plate, but the driver of that truck and the driver of a black truck traveling together fled, taking officers on a chase off road, along fence lines, said Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor.
The chase continued for more than three hours. Around noon, witnesses reported seeing 15 people run across the highway, but officers were unable to get to them, O'Connor said.
Helping with the search were the Department of Public Safety, the game warden, the Fire Marshal.
