YOAKUM - Mayor Anita Rodriguez and council members interviewed candidates for the city manager position in executive session during a special City Council meeting on Saturday at City Hall.

The four finalists are Raymon Dale Brown, of Palestine; Kevin M. Coleman, of Kerrville; Eldon C. Jobe, of Brownfield; and George K. Jones, of Drumright, Okla.

The person who is selected will replace recently retired Calvin Cook.

Rodriguez and councilmembers Elorine Sitka, Margie McMullen, Tim Faulkner and Tim McCoy retained the professional public executive search services of Strategic Government Resources Inc. (SGR) of Keller, and Alan Taylor, SGR senior vice president, of Georgetown, to assist in the recruitment process in June.

The search resulted in 66 qualified applicants, half were from Texas.

Former Yoakum City Manager Al Veselka is returning to the position on an interim basis. Valeska worked in the position from 1994 to 2002.

Rodriguez said in a news release, "He was nice enough to accept the position on a month-to-month basis until we find a full-time city manager."
