More than 3,000 pounds of marijuana were found inside a truckload of onions and broccoli on Oct. 19 on U.S. Highway 59, south of Telferner.

At 7:10 a.m., a Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a 2000 Freight Liner truck tractor, semi-trailer traveling north on U.S. 59 on suspicion of a traffic violation. Once stopped, the trooper noticed several signs of possible criminal activity and obtained consent to search the vehicle, said DPS spokesman Gerald Bryant.

Upon searching the trailer, the trooper found 141 bundles of marijuana hidden among the produce. The bundles turned out to be 3,106 pounds of marijuana, which has a street value of $1.55 million Bryant said.

Jorge Luis Cisneros, 35, of Palmview, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

Further investigation led to three more related arrests in Houston, Bryant said.
