Flaring under way at Formosa Point Comfort site
Sept. 1, 2011 at 4:01 a.m.
A bright flare that began about 8 p.m. Wednesday at Formosa's Point Comfort site is a routine part of the Olefins II plant's scheduled maintenance shut down, according to a Formosa news release.
The process' heaviest flaring was scheduled to end Thursday evening. Flare brightness will then diminish and continue with moderate flaring through Sunday.
The flare protects air quality during shutdowns by burning gases that are in intermediate stages of the process.
