The grand opening of the San Antonio River Authority Branch River Park in Goliad will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10.

Festivities will include free barbecue plates for the first 250 guests, live music and disc golf instructional demonstrations from the Third Coast Disc Golf club.

The Branch River Park is the first park to be exclusively owned and operated by the San Antonio River Authority.

During the development of the master plan for the park, the river authority held three public meetings to gather icomments from the community to determine how area residents would like to see the park developed.

"Public input was vital to the planning of this park," said Gaylon Oehlke, chair of SARA board. "We received a lot of information during the public meetings we held. We also got some really great input from the youth of the community through outreach to the local 4-H group. We are thankful for the public participation and are excited to see the park in use. "

The Branch River Park is at the corner of Fannin and Commercial streets near downtown Goliad.

The grand opening will celebrate the first of several phases of development of the park. This first phase includes a trail system, a park pavilion, a nine-hole disc golf course, benches, picnic tables and a park restroom.
